Stadsbomerij is a tree nursery in Almere (NL) where old and new fruit tree varieties and berry bushes are grown without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides. To give pests less of a chance to wreak havoc, everything is planted together in a crisscross pattern: apples, pears, plums, cherries, quinces, medlars, almonds, honeyberries and currants. This application is unique in the Netherlands. After three years, the fruit trees are sold and form a good basis for a private fruit garden.

Stadsbomerij has a demo orchard where each fruit tree receives a QR label. Customers can scan more than 100 fruit trees and obtain information about the fruit variety, storage and use of the fruit. As of autumn 2023, newly sold fruit trees will receive the Plantsoon label. This means that the tree can be tracked from start to finish and everyone has the opportunity to add information to the tree’s the digital passport. In addition, it provides a unique way for Stadsbomerij to maintain a years-long after-sales relationship with their customers by keeping them informed about the variety, pruning, picking, storage and use of the tree and its fruits.
