All trees have a passport at the Sint-Paulus School in Kortrijk
students become citizen scientists
"We will follow the trees in all seasons and add the necessary information and photos per tree."
From classic gray playground to climate playground
On the playground of the Sint-Paulus school in Kortrijk, the children come into contact with nature again. Playing and learning are paramount. Due to a goal oriented and sustainable process, the city school has successfully transformed its concrete flooring into a stimulating play and learn landscape where children can play in nature, are provided with play stimuli and are exposed to biodiversity. Here, playing and learning go hand in hand. Lessons increasingly take place in the open air; discovering and learning in nature becomes a must.
All 31 trees received a unique QR code
One of the elements of the climate playground are the 31 newly planted trees. They all received a Plantsoon plant sign. By scanning the QR code, you get information about the tree species, leaves and fruits. In addition, it is possible to add photos to track the evolution of each tree over time. By doing so, the students can help map the growth of the trees, can learn more about the biodiversity in their environment and can therefore conduct research in their own school as citizen scientists.
