Mount a label on an aluminium stake
For L- and XL-signs next to trees, in borders and beds, or around shrubs. The label sits at a slant so visitors can read and scan it while standing.
In the box
- Anodised aluminium stake (51 cm, plus a 5 cm slanted top)
- Double-sided adhesive strip
- Your L- or XL-sign
You'll need
- Clean, dry cloth
- Your phone, to scan the label
Step by step
-
Check the label
Scan the QR code and make sure it opens the page of the plant you're standing next to. Easier to fix now than after mounting.
-
Clean both surfaces
Wipe the slanted top of the stake and the back of the label with a dry cloth. Dust and moisture keep the tape from sticking properly.
-
Stick the label on
Peel off one side of the strip and press it onto the stake. Remove the second liner, line the label up with the top edge and press firmly for 30 seconds.
Do this indoors or in the shade on cold days, then take the finished stakes outside.
-
Place the stake
Push the stake by hand about 20 cm into the soil, just in front of the plant or tree and facing the path.
Push on the stake, not on the label. Keep clear of thick roots and irrigation pipes.
-
Scan it once more
Stand where a visitor would stand and scan. If the camera struggles, turn the stake a little towards the light.
Common questions
Can I move a label to a different stake later?
Yes. Warm the tape with a hairdryer and slowly lift the label. Use a new adhesive strip to mount it again.
What about rocky or very hard soil?
Make a pilot hole first with a thin metal rod or screwdriver, then push the stake in.
Should I take the stakes in over winter?
Not necessary. Anodised aluminium holds up to frost. Do check after a hard freeze that the stakes are still upright.
Can I put an S- or M-tag on a stake?
The slanted top is sized for L- and XL-signs. Mount smaller tags with a screw set or a cable tie.
