Mount a label on a tree trunk with a screw set
For trees with a sufficiently thick trunk. The spring keeps the label away from the bark, so the tree can keep growing without swallowing it.
In the box
- Stainless steel screw
- Spring
- 2 washers (1 small, 1 large)
You'll need
- Screwdriver or drill driver with a T25 Star Drive bit (Americas) or a TX20 bit (Europe)
- Your phone, to scan the label
Step by step
-
Check the label
Scan the QR code and make sure it opens the page of the tree you're standing next to. Easier to fix now than after mounting.
-
Choose the spot
Pick a smooth, healthy part of the trunk on the side that faces the path, at a height visitors can easily reach with their phone. Avoid wounds, knots and spots where a branch will grow over the label.
-
Assemble the set
Slide the parts onto the screw in this order: the label, the small washer, the spring and finally the large washer. The label sits just under the screw head, and the large washer presses against the trunk.
-
Screw it into the trunk
Turn the screw into the trunk with a screwdriver or drill driver fitted with the right bit: T25 Star Drive in the Americas, TX20 in Europe. Stop while the spring is still loose, so it can compress as the trunk grows.
Don't screw it in all the way. The space between the label and the bark is what keeps the tree from growing over it.
-
Add the second set if needed
M-, L- and XL-labels have two mounting holes. Mount the second set the same way and keep the label level.
